Hey, PDX First Family! Our hearts are clearly still hurting from the tragedy in Las Vegas this week. This evil is compounded by the hatred that so many feel and freely express on social media, the television, and any other place that will give them voice. We are a nation in desperate need of God’s healing touch.
2 Chronicles 7:14 tells us, “…if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (italics added). The thing that continually stands out to me is that the healing of the land begins with God’s people, the ones called by His name, if they will humble themselves and seek his face and turn from their wicked ways, then God will hear and heal. The humility and repentance begins with God’s people! To use the words of Jesus we looked at last Sunday, these are the sheep who know the voice of the Shepherd and listen to His voice. Hey, church — that’s us!
Tonight we will be gathering for our monthly Prayer & Praise Service in the Youth Center at 6:30 PM. This service will be led by Aaron Albright (Director of Worship & Creative Arts) and will include opportunities to worship God in the midst of our grief, times of reflection, guided prayers, and moments to humble ourselves before God and repent of any wickedness that we have either engaged in or sat silently by and watched. This is an important gathering, and I hope you can make it.
And then I want to encourage you to continue engaging in the 31 Days of Prayer throughout the month of October. We have a prayer guide that you can access at pdxfirst.org/pray, and we encourage you to make it a part of the designated time that you are setting aside each day to prepare your heart to hear the voice of God. This is being done in conjunction with our Frequency series as we are learning how to turn off the noise in our lives and tune into the voice of God. If you missed week 1, you can listen to the message here.
God is speaking! Do you have ears to hear? Join us this week as we lean in to hear what God is speaking to us. You won’t want to miss it!
