There is a coolness in the air that points towards a change in the seasons…and fall is my favorite time of the year. In fact, I am really looking forward to the fall season at PDX First. We have a lot of great things planned, and I’m excited to see how God continues to move in the midst of them.
Below is a list and brief description of some of the things coming to PDX First this fall.
Upward Basketball is coming!
Even though games don’t begin until January, fall is when much of the hard work and planning for the Upward Basketball season takes place. This week a mailer will be going out to 1,761 homes within a two-mile radius of the church that have children twelve years old or younger. This is a part of a strategy we have been working on to reach families in the two-mile radius around our church. I would invite you to join us in praying over these 1,761 homes and ask that God would draw them into this program so that we might have the opportunity to be salt & light to them. Please keep in mind that this is a spiritual endeavor and we have spiritual tools at our disposal. Prayer is a powerful tool that each of us can use. Will you please pray for these 1,761 homes this week?
Fall Preaching Series — Frequency: Learning to tune into the voice of God.
It is an extremely humbling thing to think that the God of the universe wants to speak to me and to you. This new series will teach us how we can cut through some of the noise that is all around us and seek to hear the voice of God in everything we do and everywhere we go. We believe that God speaks most clearly to us through Scripture and the whispers of the Holy Spirit as we seek Him in prayer. So, during this series we will be providing you with a guide to daily readings in the book of Proverbs and to 31 Days of Prayer. The month of October has the potential to be a great time of spiritual growth, and I hope you will join us on this journey which begins Sunday, October 1.
Trunk-or-Treat Outreach Event
The highlight of the fall for most kids is Halloween night. This is a night they look forward to all year. They can hardly wait until dark to begin donning their costumes and make-up so they can head out and collect mass quantities of candy. This year we will be providing a fun, safe event for the families of our community on Halloween night. It’s called a Trunk-or-Treat! This is a fun event where our community of faith will come together, park our cars in lots D & E, decorate our trunks, and fill them with candy. Kids can then go trunk to trunk just like they would homes in their neighborhood.
This is another event designed to reach the two-mile radius around the church, and we will be sending invitations to the same 1,761 homes with children twelve years old and under. We will be providing more details about how you can best be praying for these families leading up to this event, but please know that we need you to pray about the role you can play to make this an awesome outreach to our community. We will need widespread participation from young and old to make this a successful event. We will need 50-75 cars willing to participate and additional people to help with food, games, donating candy, etc. So your help will make a tremendous difference in this event and will speak volumes to our community about our care for their families.
There are lots of other exciting ways for you to connect and engage this fall, from Heritage Night to the Blacklight Bash, to Women’s Retreat. Jump in and find the environments where you can be enriched and where your presence will enrich the lives of others.
Grace and peace!
