Our thoughts and prayers are with the Angier and Casner families following the death of Quincy Angier on December 2. A memorial service is scheduled for Feb. 2 at 1:30 PM. A memorial fund has been established in honor of Quincy to be used for technology updates. Please clearly mark your gift “Angier memorial.”
Upward Prayer Guide
Upward Basketball is a ministry our church provides for our community that brings hundreds of children and families together to learn new skills in an environment that celebrates them and their talents – and points them to their Creator! We would greatly appreciate your prayers to make this a great season! A prayer guide for 100 Days of Prayer is available at the Guest Services Desk.
Offering envelopes for 2018 are available for pick-up at the Guest Services desk. If you want to begin using numbered envelopes, please make a note on your Connect Card or contact Brianna Waldridge in the church office.
After fourteen faithful years of service to PDX First, Brianna Waldridge has sensed God leading her to work outside the church. We cannot express how much Bri has meant to our congregation over the years. She will be greatly missed. Her final day in the office will be Dec. 27. In the days ahead you can contact Brenda Hess with any questions you might have regarding giving or finance. Requests for information to be placed in the bulletin can be directed to Katie Holder.
Christmas Card Exchange
Remember to check the box near the Media Center for Christmas cards addressed to you!
Christmas Giving Tree
As in previous years, we want to provide the counselors at Sylvan Middle School with gift cards to distribute to students who can’t afford clothing, school supplies, or other things they need. To participate, please take a tag from the tree in the Level 4 foyer, purchase a gift card from Fred Meyer or Target, and return it to the basket under the tree by December 31.
We live in a day and age where many in the church have shied away from conversations about sanctification. Complex and confusing teachings, legalism, unrealistic expectations — all of these and more have left us in a place where the biblical ideal of sanctification isn’t talked about, much less pursued. And yet, we cannot overcome the effects of sin independent of God’s sanctifying power at work in us. We desperately need to recover a biblical understanding of sanctification for today. Join us this Wednesday for the first of a three part series where we will start with “Our Problem with Sanctification.”
Senior Adult Choir
The next Senior Adult Choir practice will be held Sunday, January 7, at 2:00 PM in the Choir Room. Everyone is welcome, even if you are not a senior adult! Please contact Danette Buchanan with any questions.
Portland First Students
Those students who are attending the ORPAC District All-Nighter need to be at the church and ready to leave next Sunday evening by 6 PM. We will be returning the following morning between 6 and 6:30. Be sure to bring your swimsuit, towel, any extra change of clothes and shoes you might need, along with any extra spending money for snacks while at the Kroc Center. All bags will be searched upon entrance to the Kroc Center so please be aware of this.
Give Us Your Feedback
Parents and Teens, last week you received an email with two links to surveys. Looking to gather as much honest feedback and information about our youth ministry as possible. If you could take just a few minutes to fill one of them out this next week it would be a great help to me and our youth ministry as we move forward.
Portland First Ladies
First Ladies’ Gathering
Ladies, mark your calendars for our next gathering on Saturday, January 27, at 10:30 AM. Our special guest will be Edythe Leupp, speaking on the topic of Self-Identity. Edythe holds a doctorate in education and is the author of the book, “EXPECT” Parent Joy. Join us in the Fireside Room for light refreshments and an encouraging morning together.
