Bridging Cities, Building Collaboration

Date: May 14-16th at Portland First Church of the Nazarene.

Sessions: We currently have about 35 scheduled workshops in addition to the main morning sessions. (We’re still confirming sessions) The morning session for each day will have a couple of key speakers and speaker panel to cover foundational information we want everyone to know.

Tools Available: Resource kits, School Curricula, Books, Training Videos, Awareness Stickers, and other valuable information to help foster collaboration, locate trafficked victims, and provide resources and aftercare for survivors.

Networking Lunch - Seating by city.


Workshop Sessions:

Tuesday, May 14th -Focused on Awareness for HealthCare, Hospitality, Transportation, Young Adults, and Parents.

Wednesday, May 15th- Faith Community day with sessions for pastors/ministry leaders and survivors.

Thursday, May 16th will be law enforcement training only.

Empowered to Connect 2019

Experience practical teaching in a safe and supportive community as we work to equip families, churches, and professionals to better serve children impacted by adoption and foster care.

This year’s conference includes Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®) methods developed by Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross from the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development, which exists to bring attachment and connection in families. The nationwide participation in the Empowered to Connect Conference is a testament to the impact and work of Dr. Karyn Purvis.

Food Bank Repack

On March 23rd, from 8:45 - 11:30 AM come and join us at the Beaverton Food Bank as we repack dozens of frozen veggies and other frozen foods to feed families in our area! The minimum age to volunteer is 6 years old. if you have children under the age of 18 volunteering, there is a required Youth Consent form that must be signed by a parent or guardian. Our next monthly gathering will be Tuesday, March 12, at 6:30 p.m. in room 302. We will be discussing a lighter read titled "A Street Cat Named Bob: and How He Saved My Life" by James Bowen. Bowen, a street musician in London, England and struggling to beat his drug addiction, discovers an injured cat near his apartment. Bowen aptly describes his life with Bob, the cat. We welcome anyone who enjoys fellowship, good food, and loves to read .

On Sunday, March 10th Children's Ministries is hosting our next Family Breakfast, PJs and Pancakes. We will meet in the Youth Room at 9:15 for a special morning of creating and cooking your own pancakes in PJs or comfy clothes. Prizes will be given for creativity. Come and put together a take home project that will help better understand the Lord’s Prayer and why we use it. Tell us you’ll join us by signing up by Wednesday, March 6th. Have you ever been curious about what goes into shooting a good video? Curious about how to get just the right shot? Have you ever thought about learning some new skills that would help you and our church connect others to Christ through video?

If so, then please join us for this informative Video Workshop on Sunday, February 24th at noon in the Fireside Room. This workshop will be taught by our very own Tad Newberry. Tad has an M.A. in Film and is an award-winning producer. As a part of this workshop you will learn:

On Sunday, January 27th, we are throwing an Old School Afterglow in the church gym from 5:00-7:00 PM. We know that connections are crucial to us being a healthy community of faith, so why not bring back the Afterglow. We are going to gather for an evening of fellowship and games. People of all ages are invited to bring a snack to share, your favorite board or card games, and join us for an evening of fun and laughter as we connect with one another around the table. Experiencing God Study Group

On Wednesday, January 23rd @ 6:30 PM we will kickoff our first six-week session of the Experiencing God bible study.  This study is nothing short of transformational.  One of the things we are most excited about is the Experiencing God environment for kids.  Amy Gillilan, our Director of Children’s Ministry, will be leading our kids through the seven realities of Experiencing God, and the kids will go home with an activity book packed with fun games and activities designed to show your kids how they can discover and join God in His work.

Space for this study is limited to 25 adults and ten kids, so please reserve your spot and workbook today.  The cost of the adult workbook is $16.  Kids activity books will be provided for free.

Youth Overnight Trip

Be sure to get an ORPAC All-Nighter packet from Pastor Robb (email him RobbG@pdxfirst.org). This year’s all nighter is happening on December 28-29 from 6:00 PM till 5:00 AM (pick-up at the church will be around 5 or 5:30). The cost is $45 per person and we will be headed to South Salem Nazarene Church for a worship service and then on to the Kroc Center for dinner, games, swimming, rock wall, and so much more.

Parent's Day Out

During this busy season, parents enjoy a “Day Out” on Saturday, December 15th from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at no cost to you. While you have an opportunity to have a few hours on your own, your children will have a wonderful time at PDX First Church. They will start with dress rehearsal for the Christmas musical, move on to pizza for lunch, and finish with fun and games with the youth.
